Attention MKF Fanboys, Zealots, and other pests. |

It has come our attention one of our village idiots decided to vandalize a certain troll's hateful little webpage about MKF. Congrats, Slit Zurifa, you gave the troll exactly what he wanted dumbass.
One of the reason Judgespear, and MKF to lesser extent, has gathered so much hate is because his critics view him as a "Skeletor" type person: an asshole overlord that sends minions out to settle his beefs with people. And its because of overly sensitive fans of his playing into the hands of trolls. And in this screwed up planet of ours its not the attacker who is remembered for the flames: its the people they were defending that get remembered for the hostilities.
I know a lot of you love MKF and other projects of the devs. I know you get burned up when some jerk makes a hostile rant about the game. But the MKF dev team are not gods or nobility. We don't need the Knights of the Round Table riding out to defend our good name every time the slightest spoken words against us turns up.
In all reality zealot fans are 10 times worse than trolls, flamers, and rude critics. All the others we can ignore. But everytime some fan engages such people they're given an excuse to continue building hate and numbers against us. Its gotten to the point where several devs are feeling nothing but contempt for their own fanbase.
To sum it up: we have absolutely, positively, 100% had it with zealot fans stirring up flames. Anyone from this forum community caught flaming, vandalizing, or otherwise feeding disputes with our critics and trolls will be dealt with in the most serve fashion. |

| QUOTE (http://www.reactos.org/en/about.html) | What is ReactOS? ReactOS is a free and open-source operating system based on the Windows NT architecture design, providing support for existing applications and drivers and an alternative to the current dominant consumer and server operating systems.
Why re-implement NT? First of all, the 'Windows' the general public knows is actually just one part of the modern Windows NT operating system. They usually mean the Win32 subsystem, a layer that sits upon the NT kernel, providing the user and application interface.
"NT is still around, known as XP and Vista"
Most people think of 'NT' as 'WinNT 4', while in reality the term NT is equal to the NT series, which ranges from version 3 over NT5 (2000, XP, 2003) to NT6 (Vista). The NT architecture was designed by a team lead by David Cutler, a former lead developer of VMS. It took them more than 4 years to combine the best of UNIX, VMS and OS/2 and create the NT architecture. the ReactOS project reimplements a state-of-the-art and open NT alike operating system based on the NT architecture-design. It comes of course with a WIN32 subsystem, NT driver compatibility and a handful of useful applications and tools.
ReactOS combines the power and strengths of the NT kernel - which is well known for its extensibility, portability, reliability, robustness, performance and compatibility – with Win32 compatibility. |

The New Challenges Topic |
| Posted by Xavier Genisi - 04-14-09 16:32 - 97 comments |
|
For those who already completed all the levels in the latest version, or those who just want to show off, or perhaps want extra difficulty, this is for you!
Submit challenges for others to try out, or take a shot at doing them.
A couple of rules though:
1. All challenges must be doable. No impossible challenges, like "Complete Toyland without getting hit or collecting any rings" or "Defeat Mouser in 10 seconds". They can be hard as hell, but not impossible. 2. All challenges must be completed without abusing glitches. They must be able to be completed in later releases. 3. Feel free to post videos of you completing the challenge. (Also if you think any other rules should be added, feel free to suggest them). 4. Note that claims that you completed a challenge don't count if you don't link to a video of it. This is because it's easy for people to just go and claim that they did just about anything when they don't have to provide proof. 5. (added by JudgeSpear, July 24, 2008) You may take on a challenge already completed by someone else. 6. (added by Xavier Genisi, October 14, 2008) The only new challenges that will be accepted will be for the latest version of the game that has been released. THIS IS IMPORTANT. THERE HAS BEEN TOO MANY SUGGESTIONS OF CHALLENGES THAT CANNOT BE DONE IN THE LATEST PUBLIC RELEASES. 7. (added by Xavier Genisi, April 14, 2009) Only challenges added to the list really count. You can do them, but don't expect them to count for anything.
List of Challenges
The Airship of Hate: Complete Airship Armada without getting hit, using any character. Completed using Mario (no powerups), by Genisi.
Structural Integrity: Defeat Mouser, but don't let any of the breakable bricks get destroyed, using any character. Completed using Luigi, by Target.
Size Doesn't Matter: Defeat all the bosses as Small Mario, not using any powerups. Ongoing challenge run by Genisi.
Retro Rematch: Defeat King Totomesu without getting hit and without using projectiles as any character. Completed using Mario (no powerups), by Genisi.
Fly Swatter: Clear King Watinga's Revenge without getting hit, using any character. Completed using Mario (no powerups), by Genisi.
We Have Much More Important Business: Clear The Library without hitting Guilty Spark. (Note, this may require bringing a flight powerup into the level beforehand so you can complete the run section) Completed by lookw: part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O23C9x1TPhc part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRBJ0wr4H5w
No Thanks, I Brought Mine: Defeat the Cyberdemon without having to resort to using the rocket launchers in the arena. Completed by ZeroFollower0 using Luigi.
Bomb Phobia: Defeat Mouser without using any bombs (this requires a projectile powerup to complete). Completed using Luigi, by Target.
Moonshines: Collect the 3-Up Moon in the chase section of Skyscraper Domain. You also have to complete the rest of the level on that same life that you got the 3-Up Moon on. Completed by lookw, using Tails (July 12, 2008)
Unidentified Flying Hedgehog: Clear the RUN!! section of The Library using Sonic. Judgespear completed this challenge when he revealed Sonic, actually. Also completed by lookw: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWz-bl3P7Lw
Bug Exterminator: Clear King Watinga's Revenge without using the Lakitu Cloud with any character. Completed using Mario, by lookw.
Clown Crusher: Defeat Calliope The Clown without getting hit as any character. Completed using Mario (no powerups) by Genisi.
Feel The Sunshine: Clear three stages in a row using the Tails Doll suit (as Tails of course) without getting hit. Completed by lookw.
Super Virus Bros: Clear Corpse of the Behemoth without getting hit by anything using any character. Completed by lookw using Tails.
Good Samaritan: Clear any stage without killing any enemies, using any character. Completed by Genisi using Small Mario in levels 1-1, 1-2, and 1-S1. Completed by lookw using Tails.
Heart Attack: Defeat the Necromancer only by throwing the red cells he spawns from the Heart. Completed by lookw: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxU3g8n0150
Hammer Bros Impersonator: Clear any level using Mario only killing enemies(and bosses) using the hammers from the Hammer Bros. Suit. Completed by lookw.
"The Foot" of Judgement: Beat the entire Library without using any projectiles, POW blocks, grenades, or kickable infection forms. No checkpoints, of course. Completed by lookw: part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmJsOz6Ewuo part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oq8CDBxyg9I
What Would Chuck Norris Do?: The above without any use of the Spartan Powerup (must begin the level without any powerups or rings as well). Completed by lookw: part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alz2-nPkZBw part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWKk22VQe8M
Flak Insanity: Defeat King Totomesu using only Nokobons kicked straight up into the air Completed by lookw using Tails.
Stampede of Doom: Survive Buffalo Evasion using any character, and without getting hit. Completed by Kilometers Persecond using Sonic.
Stampede & Slide: Using Big Mario or Big Luigi only, clear Buffalo Evasion without getting hit. Hint: You MUST slide to avoid the falcons.
Medieval vs Modern Warfare: Beat Scandinavian Campaign using Arthur's weapons only.
Conscientious Objector: Complete Finland Battlefield without personally killing any enemies. YOU YOURSELF cannot defeat any enemies.
Charged Wood: As Mario, you must complete Wood Man's Forest while holding a chargeshot the whole way. You may NOT release the chargeshot and are only allowed to kill enemies through the buster shots that appear during a spinjump (you can't actually spinjump on enemies). This stops when Woodman appears, anything goes when you actually fight him.
Ghostbuster: Defeat Big Boo at the end of Boo Mansion before he makes 3 complete circles around the arena
Weak Knees: Play as Super Mario and (as soon as you land) complete level 1-1 or 1-2 without standing upright ie. crouching from beginning to end. Also, because getting hit will make you smaller, you must not take any damage.
Gunnin' Gomander: Defeat Gomander using the buster pistol gun provided (no picking up debris). |

Promotions topic |

On Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, the following members have received a promotion:
Main team member (red name): Shodian: Do I really need to explain this? This guy is a superstar. He's made some very good levels, like the Rice Beach remake. On top of this, he's become quite the coder overnight. Shodian is also a very active contributor to the project. I support this motion to have him aboard as a core team member.
Junior Team Member: Psychopath: Another great coder in GM. He's also helped squish a few annoying bugs in MKF that Obreck nor I had the time to address.
Pouncer: Out of nowhere, this guy made some excellent and wholly unique levels. Sure, his first level based on Wolfenstein wasn't too great, but his subsequence levels (like Well of wishes) have shown definite improvement.
C-Dev member: Lars Lauron: An excellent spriter who has made sprites for GoW and more.
On March 21, 2009:
Two more promotions:
AuraLancer to C-Dev: Active level designer, whose works include Tree Zone Trek.
Lars Luron to Junior Team Member: A workhorse member! A spriter, coder, AND level designer! If he keeps this up, he may be seeing red sometime soon!
June 26, 2009:
Lars Luron is now a full-fledged dev-team member. He's made so many great unique levels such as Jorney to Funkatron and the Ratchet & clank level. This is a no-brainer decision.
Del is now a C-Dev member. He's contributed a lot of spritework.
TheBlackKnightMan is now a C-Dev member. He's contributed several code fixes, which will be in v0.3.
July 4, 2009:
RisingManes may not be a mod anymore, but she's a C-Dev now due to her active work on MKF.
August 14, 2009:
RisingManes got her mod status back, and Dvv402 is now a mod.
October 29, 2009: Surprise to AuraLancer, who's now a Junior Team Member.
Although Hello and I have not been as active as core team members lately, we would be Honorary Team Members, since I founded the project, and it was Hello's own Hello Engine 3 that made this whole project possible in the first place. |

How to embed YouTube videos |
| Posted by RussianGestapo - 09-8-08 18:46 - 9 comments |
|
See the drop down list for "OTHER BBCODES"? Open it, scroll down and select "YouTube Video". You Should get "" appear in the comment box.
Now open the video you want to embed. The url in the address bar should read, for example, something like http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=3KANI2dpXLw (obviously this example is slightly different from the US address because I'm in the UK).
Copy and paste all the code after the "v=" bit e.g. the code for the previous example would be "3KANI2dpXLw". Paste it in behind the bit from the first step i.e. "3KANI2dpXLw".
Now select YouTube from the drop-down list like in step 1 again, only this time add a "/" to the front of it i.e. "".
The video code should be sandwiched in-between the two YouTube BBcodes, and selecting preview/send should produce an embedded video.
Simple, isn't it? |

How versitile can save files be? |
| Posted by Sum Gai - 11-24-09 14:06 - 11 comments |
|
I've been wondering about this for awhile now. And since the save feature has to be re-implemented anyway I thought I might as well ask.
Is it possible for the saved file be shared between multiple games?
As I understand it, MKF needs only to remember which stages are beaten, which characters are unlocked, your score, coins, lives, rupies, and cherries.
Now if this were an external file and sharable, another game could add to or spend your score, rupies, ect.
I'm wondering because I can see three possibilities if it can.
First: the upcoming Super Mario Fusion could let you carry a portion of your stuff over to MKF after you beat it.
Second: It would open the possibility of a Shmups world being built as an independent game, but sharing rupies, score, ect. With MKF. And the two games could unlock secrets in eachother.
Third: In some distant future, a sequel to MKF may be made. |

MKF Dash of Obscurity Minigame |

MKF: Dash of Obscurity
2 levels in one minigame!
Download (v1.2; 37 MB): http://www.sendspace.com/file/invm9i After some hard work, I decided to release these two levels in quite a playable state.
Eppicus Mega MMX (40% complete, more of a sneak peek) This is a JJ1 based level. Right now it's a mix of the best parts of the JJ1 levels with my own additions. I've finished the layout (only Diamondus yet) and object placements so all the hard stuff is pretty much done by now. I'm intending to add more JJ stuff such as enemies and other goodies. Besides the level itself, there're color-based diskettes as well as colored crystals; they work just like Rupees, but give you a big point bonus as an incentive. Also, did I mention this level is huge? There are several alternate paths along the way and quite a few secrets as well. Let's hope you can find them all. For now I'm trying to tweak this level a bit. It seems for some reason the 2nd part of the level made my FPS go down quite a bit; I was forced to use frameskip for it. Perhaps I might have added too many objects... Also it appears you have a better chance of surviving with a spartan suit than with a megaman suit, so I'll try to balance both. Since last time I showed it, there have been mostly cosmetical improvements and a few new objects, but nothing major yet.
Lost in Retro (95% complete, just needs pulleys and boss) So you played the original Super Mario Bros in all it's 8-bit glory? Well get ready to get a whole new retro feel; not only it's a brand-new design based on the best parts of the game, it uses some of the Lost Levels tileset for a fresh feeling and looks. Of course it doesn't stop there. If you think it's a piece of cake, think again. The levels are also harder now, with some added hazards to overcome. For an even more special gameplay, there are hidden powerups scattered throughout the stage, so you don't have to use fireflowers all the time; see if you can find them all! As an added bonus, there's a secret entrance to a special room in each level! Can you find it?
This is it people, time to play these stages! I appreciate all the feedback I can get, but most of all, enjoy! |

Fortress of doom without a sinistral? D=< |
| Posted by Verin100 - 11-12-09 17:05 - 7 comments |
|
Who the heck is helmet head anyway? Sure he was semi challenging for a moment until I figure out where to stand when I throw the radishes.
There should be a sinistral in there. Daos preferably, but any one of them will do. Erin Daos Gades or the other one I can't remember.
I will sprite them myself if I have to!
I will sprite all four if you want. Call me a fanatic, but I think the game deserves some respect.
The level was amazing and the puzzles were a very nice surprise. The whole thing was great right up until the boss. So whoever made the level. Congrats on a job very well done.
My only problem is the boss. |
