I think your sprites are nicely done.
As for how I did it, I took the existing Sonic 3 sprites, shrunk them down to 80% and fixed up anything that needed to be fixed. It's pretty easy. If you do wish for me to do this, I will.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that I also kept the standing head seperate and used it on other bodies that needed it (the running for example).

A fan backlash against the established sprites?
...Yeah, actually. I always thought Sonic 3 sprites were the best base. To be honest, I was just glad that Obreck made the Sonic MKF sprites with the Sonic 3&K palette. To have sprites based on S3&K would just be a huge bonus.
Come on Poppants and AkumaTH, you're both talented spriters, can't you colalborate and bring us the entire sprite sheet? Even if they don't get the elite seal of approval, I think it's established that a lot of folks would just like some alternative custom Sonic sprites!

Bloodgrey: I realize that, and it WAS one of the things I was thinking about...But I think, with Sonic's more cartoon-y proportions, this was only fitting. If you have it flat like in the Game Gear sprites, it just doesn't look right.
AkumaTH: Hey. If it's really so easy, I think we know the thing we should do, here. You do it.
Seriously, now. It takes me a long while to do all that, and with resizing, it becomes easy. Huh. So right now, I'm not sure what to do. Collaboration, perhaps? Maybe I could use some of the poses you already did...or maybe I could try to do them all, myself, to stay in style. I'm not sure, but I must admit yours look fantastic, much more so than mine. And. Easy process. Big plus.
...
Also. Everybody. Thanks for the support on this, I appreciate it. It would be great if we could all come together to improve the game!
For the people that don't like them, that's fine. You can't please everybody, and that's something that's a fact of life. If these, on the slim chance, ever do get in, then you can always use the original Game Gear ones as a skin. But I doubt they'll make it in the way this is going. Heh.
I'll work on more when I have time. I have to read some books and write six or so essays before school starts in a week...and I haven't done that yet. So, yeah.

I have to agree with Poppants on this. Making the nose smaller would actually make it look like Sonic's nose just got punched into his face.
I think this is a swell idea! I do really like the idea of Sonic's sprites from the 3rd game being redone to match the correct height.

I've made some minor edits, and redid the horrible grabbing sprite. Basically, I made the nose more round and cartoony like I think it should be, fixed the shading on your arms...and...well...that's about it, really.

...
Yeah. I do think someone (Maybe I) should fix the forward sprite, though. It's really, even though it's from Sonic 3...just...meh, in my opinion. Too flat. Too boring for a victory pose, too.
Oh, and the soles of the Rocket Shoes I made white. This should help differentiate them more.
...
I'll work on it some more, but it's around midnight where I am, so I need to pack it in very soon.
Thanks for the help, guys.

Seriously though, I like working in a group, since you can all work to improve on something together (look how good Dry Bowser turned out with all the help). I'd say you should go ahead and fix up the front pose. Maybe something like a thumbs up or something. Also, I agree that if this is going to be official, the shields could use with an update.

As for the Shields, I decided to give my Rotosprite and test out it's scaling feature to see if I can get something to work with...

The lightning shield looks alright shrunk as is... Though I'm not sure shrinking the fire sheild was a good idea.
Giga Ganon

So! You guys have...gone on. Quite a bit.

Sorry...I...wasn't here for this. That's very careless of me, I apologize.
AkumaTH! Double G! Thanks for the help with this. No. Thanks for allowing me to help you with this, I'm hardly doing anything at this point. But...I think I can help, now. I just realized, after experimenting a little bit a few days back, that Akuma REALLY wasn't kidding when he said resizing was easy. Like, really easy. I never knew, thanks for the trick!
Which poses do we need, now? I think we (By that, I mean you guys) are doing a fantastic job so far. This should be a piece of cake to finish.
Because I felt a bit guilty of you guys doing all the work, I started on a rough Quickman sprite a few minutes ago. Turning out decently. I need some input on it, though. Maybe we can collaborate with this as well. each do a few poses?

...But, really. Thanks. I couldn't even think of ATTEMPTING this without you guys' help.

I should be the one thanking you two for letting me jump in and help with this, and especially AkumaTH for the resizing trick, as fixing the sprites up is much easier. BTW the only sprites left are "Edge" sprites. After that, if there are no more touch-ups (the nose might need fixed as some sprites have smaller ones than others) then I will reorganize the sprites and color the shoes orange & white for the rocket shoes.
As for Quickman, my suggestion is make the bottom quill a little smaller, the head emblem maybe a little bigger, and gold trim for the ears. Other then that is looks good.
AkumaTh

Sonic's makeover was needed and a long time coming. Tails already looks great.

I did the edge sprites and updated Quickman Sonic a little bit. Hopefully, you don't mind, bladesman. Hopefully. I was just trying to move this along a bit faster. If we're lucky, ours can be as good as the original ones you made!
...
And...yeah. The edge sprites, I know this is going to sound like an excuse, though, were a bit tough to resize. You guys can fix them if need be.
...
I think I'm going to have to agree with Obreck about Tails. The sprites they used as a base were not as 'primitive', if you will, as Sonic's Game Gear ones. Plus, he's already really recognizable as Tails. A Sonic 3 makeover would be fine, but would probably too much extra work and not really worth it.
Anyway, thanks everybody. This is turning out awesomely.

Only when he swims with the life jacket, then. Or maybe we can have it for when he reaches the top of his jump, he starts frantically flapping his arms as he descends, but only when he's life jacket-less.
