Full Version: Umm... It's a Sonic Fangame, I guess

Well, since I need some more experience with Game Maker (and since hacking Sonic 1 takes too much time- plus I lost all my hacking experience), I plan on starting a Sonic fangame using an engine I randomly found on Youtube. Once I get the creator's permission to use it, then the fun will begin. biggrin.gif

Anyway, it's a standard 6 world, 3-act Sonic game with (this is undecided) either custom Genesis sprites or GBA sprites. If GBA sprites are overdone, then I'll go back to custom ones.

I've written a lot of things down for this game, and I really want to see it get done. I can list all the worlds and bosses and whatnot in the following post.

Also, I need to figure out how to turn normal music (specifically MIDIs) into Genesis-styled music. Anyone have any ideas?

There's loads of great Custom Sonic sprites, have a browse though The Mystical Forestzone's sprite archives! cool.gif

Alot of them are in a sorta Genesis style, but there are Advanced style customs as well!

You'll even find extensions to the existing Genesis and Advanced sprites.

Okay, now for the worlds. There are 5 types of level designs for each level. The 5 different designs are:

Straight- A simple straightforward level with no specific hinderances
Traps- A level with a lot of spike pits and large falls to hinder the player
Jumps- A level that requires the player to do a lot of jumping, usually a vertical level
Maze- A level that is maze-styled and utterly confusing. You know the types I mean wink.gif
Loops- A fast level with lots of loops that requires the player to do a lot of running


Alright, so here they are. Each act has its own individual music.
First World: METAL HILL ZONE

Description: Sonic's homeland is being overrun by Eggman's forces. Use your speed and skill to take it back and prevent any more destruction!
Act 1 (straight)- Music: DWM Battle Theme
Act 2 (pits)- Music: Pokemon Red/Blue- Silph Co.
Act 3 (jumps)- Music: Cheetamen Theme
Boss Music: FF5- Encounter

Second World: WOOD FOREST ZONE

Description: The forest, once a peaceful and relaxing place, is now starting to be cut down! This has be Eggman's cronies at work. Protect the forest and all its creatures!
Act 1 (pits)- Music: Sonic 2- EHZ 2 Player mode
Act 2 (jumps)- Music: Kirby's Dream Land 2- Forest
Act 3 (loops)- Music: Chiki Chiki Boys- Level 1
Boss Music: Kirby's Adventure- Egg Game

Third World: UNDERGROUND ZONE

Description: Sonic once visited this Zone on his epic quest to rescue Tails. Now he as to return to stop Eggman in his traps!
Act 1 (maze)- Music: Sonic 2 GG- Underground Zone Act 1 (GBA Remix)
Act 2 (traps)- Music: Kirby's Adventure- Cave Levels (I'm not sure what it's called)
Act 3 (jumps)- Music: Pokemon Gold/Silver- Dark Cave
Boss Music: Sonic 1 GG- Boss

Fourth World: CAUSTIC CASTLE ZONE

Description: Eggman's built a brand new castle filled with pools of bubbling toxins. Try not to stay under too long as you explore!
Act 1 (Maze)- Music: DKC2: Castle levels
Act 2 (pits)- Music: Megaman 3- Snake Man
Act 3 (jumps)- Music: Sonic 3D Blast- Rusty Ruin Zone act 2
Boss Music: Sonic 3D Blast- Boss Theme 2

Fifth World: CHEESE LAND ZONE

Description: In a place like this, you'd think you were on the moon! Eggman's drilling the land of its natrualfor exavation purposes. Avoid any tricks and traps and push on through!
Act 1 (loops)- Music: Mario Kart Super Circuit- Cheese Land
Act 2 (maze)- Music: Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald- Meteor Falls
Act 3 (jumps)- Music: Parodius- Takosuke's Theme
Boss Music: Super Mario Sunshine- Boss Battle

Sixth World: PLATINUM PALACE ZONE

Description: Behold- Eggman's Piece de resistance- The Platinum Palace! This futuristic tower is filled with tedious tricks and treacherous traps- Try not to get dizzy when Eggman turns on Acid Mode!
Act 1 (traps)- Music: Kirby & The Amazing Mirror- Candy Constellation
Act 2 (loops)- Music: Sonic 3- Death Egg Zone
Act 3 (maze)- Music: Earthbound- Moonside
Boss Music: Earthbound- "My Sanctuary" Boss Battle

Final World: FINAL FORTRESS

Description: What Sonic game would be complete without the generic "Final world after you collect all Chaos Emeralds" world? Meh, but I digress... Deep in space, Eggman's Final Fortress resides, and he's waiting for you. His 3 Boss Trials are beyond tough. This is the final challenge, so good luck.
Level Music: Sonic 2- Death Egg
Boss 1 Music: Earthbound- Spinning Robo
Boss 2 Music: Sonic Triple Trouble- Chase on a Train (I don't know what it's called)
Boss 3 Music: Sonic 3- Final Boss

UPDATE: This game is going to be a multi-character adventure. Obviously I wanted more characters besides Sonic, but I needed to make it so that I'm not using characters that are overused in every single Sonic fangame. So, after meticulous amounts of planning, I decided on 5 good characters to use. Each character has Spindash standard, but they all have individual moves to choose from.

-SONIC-
Sonic has the Spindash standard. (Down+Jump) He has 3 other unique special attacks:
-Super Peel-Out (Up+Jump): By charging up power, Sonic releases it in a quick burst of speed.
-Homing attack (Jump+Jump again): Sonic’s other signature move. Better when used near enemies.
-Light Dash (Z near blue rings): Sonic's third signature move. If you see blue rings that look suspicious, use the Light Dash. You might get somewhere new.

-ESPIO-
Espio has the Spindash standard. He has 2 unique special attacks:
-Wall Walking (Jump+hold jump while on a wall): Originally from Knuckles Chaotix, Espio can walk on walls if he's close to them.
-Leaf Veil (Z): Using his awesome ninja powers, Espio can turn himself invisible for a short time. After the bar drops, he's visible again.

-RAY-
Ray has the Spindash standard. He has 3 unique special attacks.
-Double Jump (Jump+jump again): Well, someone's got to be able to double jump.
-Wall jump (jump multiple times on walls): Ray gets the power to Wall jump (like Mighty could in Knuckles Chaotix.) Jump on a wall to grab it, then jump again to jump to the other wall.
-Tail swipe (Z): Ray needs a move to fit him. Since hes a squirrel, he needs a move to match his tail. So, I'm using his tail as a melee attack, but at the same time, it can be used to his advantage. When he's jumping, use Tail Swipe and hold Z to float gently down to avoid danger.

-KNUCKLES-
Knuckles has the Spindash standard. He has 2 special attacks (and one pending)
-Glide (Jump after Jumping): As is customary for Knuckles, he can float through the air.
Wall Climb (Jump close to a wall, press jump again to let go): as is also customary for Knuckles, he can climb on walls.
-Punch combo (Z): Pressing the Z button for Knuckles will allow him to do a simple punch. Pressing Z a few times after that will allow Knuckles to do a punch combo. (This move is pending)

-FANG-
Fang the Sniper doesn't have Spindash, per se, but he does have some other specific moves.
-Super Dash (like Spindash, down+jump): Fang stores up power and releases it in a quick burst of speed.
-Super Jump (Hold Jump after jumping, then release): Fang stores up power in his springy tail, then releases it to shoot upward into the air.
-Snipe (Z when near an enemy): Fang can use his popgun to shoot enemies out of the sky- when in range, of course.

IMO, the boss tunes should be a bit more...epic.

EX: Live and Learn, Solaris Phase 2, etc.
